On Sunday 27th July, 2025 we are joining together with the congregation of Bo'ness Old Kirk, in the Old Kirk building.

The service will begin there at 10.45am.

There is no service in the St Andrew's building.

A Warm Welcome

A very warm welcome to you from all of us here at St Andrew's Parish Church in Bo'ness. We're one of two Churches of Scotland in Bo'ness, at the far eastern bounds of the Presbytery of Forth Valley and Clydesdale. Our two worship services each week (one on Sunday, and midweek on Wednesday) are fixed anchors for us in an otherwise full, busy and effective ministry in and around the community.

About Our Church

Local

Our social outreach groups have professional leaders but are largely run by committed volunteers. The groups focus on service to our local community through children and family work, youth work, and caring for frail people or those with dementia. Our uniformed organisations continue a longstanding and unbroken tradition that has existed in St Andrew’s under the many ministers who have served the church during its existence on the current site in Grange Terrace. The extent and variety of service provided by volunteers in the church has led to St Andrew’s receiving many of the volunteering awards which Falkirk Council bestows on local communities. Indeed, Bo’ness as a whole has recently been named as a thriving hub of voluntary and charitable activity with around 150 charities and voluntary organisations operating and turning over £2.5 million a year.

National

St Andrew’s has become known for embracing new ideas, and it is many years since we began using film and other media in our own worship and in support of prayer and study, such as the Labyrinth meditation. Later, the development of the internet has allowed us to have close contact with partner bodies and to communicate the word of God to a wider audience. Along the way we have acquired a steadily growing internet congregation of people looking in from home and from many countries abroad. We are pleased to welcome them as they tune in to our Sunday worship which is streamed out across the world. The use of media in the church led to the setting up of a separate, independent body, Sanctus Media, who still work in close relationship with St Andrew’s but also provide professional media services for the Church of Scotland and other organisations.

International

It was from within St Andrew’s that the Vine Trust charity began with support from ‘Branches’, the church shop in the Market Square. From there, the Vine Trust has gone on to become an international charity, currently providing healthcare and education in Peru and Tanzania. As a church we support projects in south India that work with children and widows. In St Andrew’s, we believe that every church member is called to share in ministry and that all are called to the vocation of discipleship. This means living out gospel values in our everyday lives at work and at home, serving the local community and being involved in other national or overseas projects.

Psalm 85: 8-13 (NIVUK)

8 I will listen to what God the Lord says;
    he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants –
    but let them not turn to folly.
9 Surely his salvation is near those who fear him,
    that his glory may dwell in our land.

10 Love and faithfulness meet together;
    righteousness and peace kiss each other.
11 Faithfulness springs forth from the earth,
    and righteousness looks down from heaven.
12 The Lord will indeed give what is good,
    and our land will yield its harvest.
13 Righteousness goes before him
    and prepares the way for his steps.

These verses from Psalm 85 describe God’s world when everything is as it should be. The Message translation says:

“Love and Truth meet in the street,

Right Living and Whole Living embrace and kiss!

Truth sprouts green from the ground,

Right Living pours down from the skies!”

It’s a vision of harmony, a world where love and faithfulness, justice and peace, meet in perfect unity. This isn’t just lofty poetry, it’s a glimpse into how God intends things to be.

It’s like those perfect moments we experience in life when everything seems to align — an amazing goal in football, a dancer’s perfect leap, a choir’s high note resonating in harmony — moments when the different parts of life come together to create beauty and joy.

Psalm 85 reminds us that God is bringing this kind of harmony into the world, when righteousness and peace will kiss. We are invited to live into that vision today by embracing right living, by fostering peace, by seeking truth that grows in our relationships and communities. Every act of kindness, every game shared, every moment of creativity and connection can be a small echo of this divine harmony.

Imagine this. A choir rehearses in an old hall. For once, every voice lands just right. Someone walks past, pauses at the door, and smiles. Inside, there’s no spotlight, just people breathing together, making music that rings true.

Prayer:

God of Right Living and Whole Living,

let your peace and justice meet in my life today.

Help me to notice the moments of harmony around me

in music, in dance, in laughter shared,

in the quiet joy of a garden blooming,

in the coming together of thoughts,

and quiet, spiritual togetherness.

May truth spring up like green shoots beneath my feet,

and may your righteousness rain down from above.

Help me to live into your vision of a world where

Righteousness and Peace embrace and kiss.
